New York State Conservationist Article: "Standing Tall: For 100 Years, Fire Towers Have Stood Guard Over Our Forests"
Located at the western edge of Franklin County, in the town of Waverly, near the hamlet of Santa Clara, the Azure Mountain fire tower has been standing guard over the northern Adirondacks since 1918.

This web site will bring you the history of the mountain and the story of how the Azure Mountain Friends organized in late 2001 and, with the help of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Americorps, saved the tower from removal. Our thanks to the generous contributions of all those who love the mountain, and all the hours donated by our many volunteers.

Come visit Azure Mountain, climb the tower, and enjoy the wonderful views. Check the Maps page if you need directions.
